Dreaming of turquoise waters, limestone cliffs and unforgettable encounters beneath the surface? Koh Phi Phi is one of Thailand’s most rewarding scuba diving destinations, with colourful reefs, dramatic underwater walls, swim-throughs, wreck dives and frequent sightings of tropical marine life.

Whether you are taking your first breath underwater or planning your next certified dive trip, SAii Phi Phi Island Village offers a beautiful base for exploring the Andaman Sea. Located on the peaceful northeast coast of Phi Phi Don, in the Lo Ba Kao and Laem Tong area, the resort is home to a Sea Bees Diving centre and its own recently renovated dive boat, the MV Saii.

Is Koh Phi Phi Good For Diving?

Yes. Phi Phi offers a wide variety of dive sites for different experience levels, from shallow coral gardens and beginner-friendly reefs to deeper sites and wreck dives for qualified, experienced divers.

The waters around Phi Phi are known for limestone formations, coral-covered walls, tropical reef fish, blacktip reef sharks, sea turtles, barracuda, snapper and plenty of colourful macro life. Conditions vary by season and site, so the best dive plan is always guided by the day’s weather, visibility and currents.

Best Dive Sites Around Phi Phi

Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai

Located south of Phi Phi Leh, Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai are two of the most popular dive sites in the Phi Phi archipelago. Divers can expect dramatic limestone formations, walls, sloping reefs, swim-throughs and colourful soft corals.

These sites are known for blacktip reef sharks, green sea turtles, barracuda, schools of snapper and a wide variety of tropical reef fish. Depending on the conditions and dive profile, they can offer rewarding experiences for divers of different levels.

Maya Corner and Maya Wall

Close to the famous Maya Bay, Maya Corner and Maya Wall combine spectacular island scenery with beautiful underwater landscapes. Coral-covered walls, sloping reefs and schools of tropical fish make these sites especially memorable.

Blacktip reef sharks and turtles may also be spotted here, making the area a favourite for divers who want to experience the natural beauty around Phi Phi Leh both above and below the water.

Palong Wall

Palong Wall is one of the best-known sites around Phi Phi for spotting blacktip reef sharks, particularly in the shallower sections. The reef is also suitable for snorkelers, making the area a good option for mixed groups of divers and non-divers.

Kled Gaeow Wreck

The Kled Gaeow Wreck is a former Royal Thai Navy patrol boat that was intentionally sunk in 2014. Today, it has developed into an artificial reef attracting groupers, lionfish, rays and other marine life.

With depths reaching approximately 27 metres, this site is best suited to appropriately qualified and experienced divers.

Hin Klang

Hin Klang is a large reef between Phi Phi Don and Bamboo Island, offering shallow coral gardens and abundant tropical fish. Its easier conditions and colourful reef scenery make it a good option for beginners or divers looking for a relaxed underwater experience.

Viking Cave Reef and Pileh Wall

These sites showcase the underwater beauty surrounding Phi Phi Leh’s iconic limestone cliffs. Divers may encounter turtles, barracuda and smaller reef life, along with healthy coral formations and scenic underwater terrain.

When Is The Best Time To Dive In Phi Phi?

Diving around Phi Phi is possible for much of the year, although conditions change with the seasons.

From November to April, the sea is generally calmer, the weather is more settled and boat trips are usually more reliable. This is often considered the best period for visitors planning their holiday around diving.

From May to October, the southwest monsoon can bring more wind, rain and rougher seas. Diving is still possible on suitable days, but conditions can vary.

Water temperatures are warm year-round, usually around 27–30°C. Visibility depends on the site and weather, but can often range from around 12 to 25 metres.

Diving With Sea Bees At SAii Phi Phi Island Village

SAii Phi Phi Island Village works with Sea Bees Diving, one of Thailand’s established dive operators with more than 30 years of experience. Founded in 1991, Sea Bees has built a strong reputation for professional service, safety and quality diving experiences.

The Sea Bees dive centre is conveniently located within the resort, making it easy for guests to join morning and afternoon boat trips directly from SAii Phi Phi Island Village. The resort’s dedicated training pool also allows course participants to practise their skills in a controlled environment before heading into open water.

The MV Saii, the resort’s recently renovated dive boat, is designed for comfort throughout the day. It accommodates more than 20 divers and features individual equipment setups, shaded lounging areas, an open sun deck, a rinsing station and easy water access.

Sea Bees also keeps groups small, with a maximum ratio of four divers per instructor or divemaster. This allows for more personal attention, greater comfort and a better overall experience underwater.

Guests can choose from introductory dives, SSI courses, multi-day dive packages and trips for certified divers, with Nitrox also available. The experienced Thai and European team combines local knowledge with international diving expertise, helping guests feel confident, safe and well looked after.

Another thoughtful detail is the pace of the dive day. Sea Bees schedules dives for up to 60 minutes, conditions and air consumption permitting, rather than rushing guests back to the boat. A minimum surface interval of 80 minutes between dives gives divers time to relax, enjoy refreshments and prepare properly for the next dive.
